OVERVIEW

Mossad (HaMossad leModi'in uleTafkidim Meyuchadim — Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations) is Israel's national intelligence agency, established in 1949. Mossad has conducted some of the most famous intelligence operations in history: the capture of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann from Argentina (1960), the assassination of Black September terrorists after the 1972 Munich massacre (Operation Wrath of God), the rescue of Ethiopian Jews (Operation Solomon, 1991), and the sabotage of Iran's nuclear program (Stuxnet, assassinations of nuclear scientists). Mossad is also accused of operations including the assassination of Hamas leaders, the theft of nuclear secrets, and the use of forged passports. Its operations are a subject of both admiration and controversy.
